Today in Central PA Sports History - 2002

September 14, 2002

On this date eight years ago, the 25th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions defeated Nebraska, 40-7. The stunning upset of the 7th ranked Cornhuskers was played in front of 110,753 fans which set (and still holds) the record for the largest crowd in PSU history. It was the Nittany Lions' first victory over a top 10 team in almost three years.

Penn State was led by Larry Johnson and Michael Robinson who each ran for two touchdowns apiece in the rout. Johnson had over 100 yards rushing for the first time in his career (123 yards on 19 carries) while quarterback Zack Mills completed 19 of 31 passes for 259 yards.

Thanks for coming and suckling Daddy's Sugar Ball...
