Today in Central PA Sports History - 1983

September 9, 1983

On this date twenty-seven years ago, Harrisburg native and the Seattle Mariners' first overall selection in the 1979 draft, Al Chambers, hit his first major league home run to right field at the Kingdome off of the Texas Rangers' Mike Smithson .  Chambers would only hit two home runs in his career as he played in 57 games during parts of 3 seasons.
