Putting on the Foil: The 2011 Winter Classic

Welcome back to Putting on the Foil, where I bring our loyal readers the news, info, and frankly my point of view from the world of hockey to DSB.  During the past two months I have found myself pondering what topic my next post should be about.  I think nothing tops this...so let’s get right to it.

It’s official.  Bearcat’s Pittsburgh Penguins will be hosting the Bridgestone Winter Classic 2011 against my very own Washington Capitals at Heinz Field.  So that means we have roughly five months of tearing each other apart until that anticipated day.  Keep your fingers crossed...hopefully we will be able to bring you full frontal access from the game itself.

While I think it is a tad unfair that Pittsburgh is playing in its second Winter Classic game, I also completely see the NHL’s side.  Who better to bring some of the highest ratings to an NHL game?  It’s the Sid and Ovi show, once again.  Some of the best ratings the NHL as seen in years were the games broadcast last season between the two.  One can only imagine the boost to the local income the game will bring to Pittsburgh come January.  As for now, all we can do is sit back and ride the media tidal wave until the big day.

Tune back in soon for my rundown on all the movers and shakers of the off-season and what awaits that great day when the hockey season starts back up again.

Thanks for coming and suckling Daddy's Sugar Ball...

I can get where someone would piss and moan about The Pittsburgh Sidneys... err Penguins getting it for a 2nd time, but in a marketing standpoint, if one was to call this stupid, I would hope that marketer would get fired.
