At Least He Is Not On A Milk Carton This Time…

It is early May, so much like last year at this time it has come to pass as a Penguins fan that I must question where Evgeni Malkin has gone. Over the course of the past five games Malkin has been scoreless and while he has been making an appearance on the ice for his regular shifts he has clearly failed to be effective. Malkin would rather play Matador with the opponents than apply a fore check. Instead of hitting a man and allowing the puck to cycle in the offensive zone Malkin looks like he is just skating halfheartedly and going through the paces during practice. He is chasing pucks down in the defensive zone and then letting them escape in the opposite end.
What is it with this guy? It is starting to look like Geno’s ego melts faster than a spring snowflake. Malkin is getting nine million dollars this year to play behind Crosby on the second line and to team up with him on the power play. He should be earning it at this time of year. He should be there when the puck is forced down low showing grit and working the puck around the goal. But he is skating through the zone like he is waiting for time to expire.
Malkin is loved and adored by Pittsburghers for his aw-shucks attitude and awesome one-liners like “I am score.” His parents get welcomed to the city like visiting dignitaries come playoff time and the Post-Gazette publishes Geno’s mom’s borscht recipe. Why does he get down on himself?
Geno… you don’t need to carry the team. This is a good thing. You don’t have to win the game singlehandedly. But you do have to hit guys behind the net and you can’t be seen sulking out there on the ice like a girl that just saw her puppy get run over.
The fans will turn on you if you fail to live up to what is a reasonable standard for you. You only have to be the second or third best guy on the team. Fluery gets way more shit than you do for losses. He can take it. He is a goalie and the good ones totally brush the last game off. Trust me… if you were on most other NHL teams the expectation would be way higher for you. If you can’t get the puck in the net that is okay… it will come if you keep shooting; but please at least look like you are trying. The fans will stand with you if you look like you are putting in the effort. The fans will be there supporting you if you look like you are working hard.
Seriously, they will. I will.
Thanks for coming and suckling on Daddy’s Sugar Ball…
Bearcat

Since we all know how much I love to write about the Pens, my only input here is to completely agree with Mr. Bearcat. After all, I picked Malkin to shine above 'Sid the Kid' come playoff time, and as my couleuge has already stated, it is as Evgeni were just strolling up and down the ice for drills, not persuing Lord Stanley. Not that I have tons of room to speak, as my Caps whole hearting shit the bed way too early. Speaking strickly from a Bearcat point of view, one would only hope that the Habs' upset of the Washington Hockey Powerhouse, ended there..... But speaking from mine, let's see another upset...
