Ten years ago today, the second-seeded Penn State Lady Lions defeated the top-seeded Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters, 86-65, to advance to their first and only Final Four in Philadelphia. Penn State would fall to the eventual champion Connecticut Huskies in the national semifinal.
The Lady Lions beat Youngstown State, Auburn, and Iowa State on their way to the matchup with Louisiana Tech in a rematch from the previous year's tournament. Helen Darling, Andrea Garner, and Maren Walseth all contributed double-doubles and Lisa Shepherd (pictured) led the scoring with 25 points.
Years later, Shepherd would reflect on their time on the national stage, "It was a great experience. As a little girl growing up I always watched the Women's Final Four. I went to a few of them and it was always a dream of mine. It was a really surreal experience. The whole time you felt that you were on cloud nine. It was really amazing."
