Winner of the Day: Bill Mazeroski

According to Dejan Kovacevic on the PBC Blog, the Pittsburgh Pirates will reveal plans for a statue of Maz to be added to PNC Park this coming season.  The commission and unveiling of the statue will coincide with the 50th anniversary of his winning home run in the 1960 World Series.  There are already three statues (Stargell, Clemente, Wagner) and only one entrance that doesn't have one...fortuitously, that entrance is the one at Mazeroski Way.  No official word has come yet regarding the design or a location.  But how can the Pirates not have it be of him circling the bases for his historic home run and located at the aforementioned entrance?

Loser of the Day: Duanal Jones

A little over a month ago, the San Francisco Giants signed a $1.3M deal with Jones, a Dominican third base prospect.  According to ESPN's Jorge Arangure, the Giants yesterday voided the contract after Jones failed a drug test administered by the team.  Do you hear that sound?  Yep, that's a seven-figure deal being flushed down the toilet.
