Yesterday's DSB Winner & Loser
We're going to try something new here and see how it goes for a couple of days. Every morning we'll give you a recap of what happened yesterday by giving you the DSB Winner and Loser. Drop us a line and let us know what you think.
"When you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose...it's how drunk you get.”
- Homer Simpson
Winner: Carlton Fisk
The Hall of Fame catcher opened up to the Chicago Tribune about Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, and baseball in the steroid era. Fisk disputed McGwire's claim (and one wrongly accepted by many "baseball" people) that steroids didn't help him hit home runs. "(McGwire) says, 'Well, it doesn't help eye-and-hand coordination.' Well, of course it does. It allows you more acuity physically and mentally and optically. You are going to be stronger and you are going to be better," stated Fisk. He also derided McGwire's rationalization that using performance-enhancing drugs kept him in the lineup when injured. "Try having your knees operated on and catching for 30 years," Fisk said. "Do you think you feel good when you go out there? (McGwire) had to stand around and play first base. So excuuuuuse me."
Loser: Roy Williams
Dadgumit!! Ol' Roy's North Carolina Tar Heels got blown out by Wake Forest in Chapel Hill by 13 points last night. The defeat marked the third straight loss for Carolina and the most in a row since Coach D'oh's 2002-03 squad lost five straight. UNC moves to 12-7 overall on the year (1-3 in conference) and their tenuous grip on a spot in the Top 25 poll is slipping through their hands like one of their many turnovers. The stress might be starting to get to Roy too...on his most recent radio show, he started questioning Carolina's fans and absolving himself of any fault by blaming his current roster of players.
Thanks for coming and suckling Daddy's Sugar Ball...
