The Weekend That Was...Couples Edition

Mack Brown & Nick Saban
- Both head coaches will meet in Pasadena on January 7th with the BCS Championship on the line as Alabama takes on Texas. In a thoroughly dominating performance, Saban's Crimson Tide rolled over defending National Champs Florida in the SEC Championship Game. On the other hand, Brown's Longhorns struggled against Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game and needed a replay review to put one second back on the clock before they claimed victory. Here at DSB we dislike (and some would say hate) both Saban and Brown, so either way the title game is a losing proposition for us. It's bad enough that both of these coaches already have National Championships, but soon one of them will have two and that's just depressing.

Tim Donaghy & David Stern
- Last Tuesday, Donaghy's tell-all book, Personal Foul: A First-Person Account of the Scandal that Rocked the NBA, was released and available for purchase (here). To promote the book, Donaghy appeared on 60 Minutes this week to talk for the first time about the betting scandal, his Mafia involvement and subsequent prison term. Needless to say, Commissioner David Stern cannot be happy with the numerous allegations in this book and the implication of impropriety for more referees after Stern vehemently stated that Donaghy was the lone rotten apple in the bunch and that his officials (and in turn, his league) were clean and above board. If Donaghy's allegations are true, the whole infrastructure of the NBA may come crashing down around Stern.

Pete Carroll & Charlie Weis
- In an interview that was supposed to be off the record and Weis now says was taken "out of context", Tubby called out the media for allowing Carroll to live in Malibu with a grad student instead of his home with his wife. Carroll denied it vehemently and deemed it irresponsible for Weis to even mention something like that. Weis may be a brilliant offensive minded football coach who will easily find a coordinator position in the NFL, but the way he has reacted to adversity at Notre Dame and now on his way out the door shows a man with no class. Somehow, he has made Pete Carroll a sympathetic figure...which I didn't think was possible.

Meghan Rickey & Cheyne Whitney
- Last night, the San Diego couple won $1 million dollars on my favorite reality show, The Amazing Race. This edition had the pairs make their way through 8 countries in 21 days and saw Meghan and Cheyne continually finish first or near the top in each leg of the race. Even though they arrived last, Meghan and Cheyne are the first to leave the deciding challenge of counting out a million dollars of chips at the Monte Carlo. I'm still convinced that the final 3 teams were fixed when my favorite team, Big Easy and Flight Time from the Harlem Globetrotters, readily took a 4-hour penalty in the penultimate episode and subsequently were eliminated.

Drew Brees & Peyton Manning
- Brees and Manning continued to get the job done...albeit in two completely different ways. Manning took control of the game early and never allowed Tennessee to gain any footing in what is the record-tying 21st regular season victory in a row for the Colts. Brees and his defense came from behind to beat the Redskins in OT on a pushed field goal attempt by Redskins' kicker Shaun Suisham, a 33 second 80-yard drive, a fumble verified by freeze-frame replay, and an 18-yard chipshot by Garrett Hartley. The two quarterbacks are clearly the current favorites for NFL MVP as they both lead their teams to 12-0 records which is a first in league history that two teams are both unbeaten this late in the season.

Thanks for coming and suckling Daddy's Sugar Ball...

I use to like this site until I found out in this post that the DSB dislikes/hates Brown and the Horns. I will no longer waste my time reading this site. I guess I will have to find something else to fill my time at work. I guess someone has to hate you when you are that good.
