Central PA Sports Bars: Hooters

During the course of the NFL season, DSB will walk you through the best and worst places in Central PA to catch all of the games on a Sunday afternoon. Every week we will be reviewing where the DSB editors (and various guest stars) spent the better part of our day. We will be judging the locations on four criteria with a 1 (bad) to 10 (great) scale for each. Hopefully, this will help our loyal local readers find the best places to spend your Sunday afternoons.

If there are any restaurateurs or bar managers out there interested in their establishment appearing here, please contact us at EditorsDSB@gmail.com.

Last week's cast of characters: ZJ, Spintrick, PJ, Plain White TS, and Max Power.

Last week we ended up hitting two different establishments.  The second place we went last Sunday was the well-renowned Hooters located on the Carlisle Pike.

TVs/View: 4

Hooters prides itself as "the place" to watch football, basketball, and even NASCAR.  Before they start claiming things they can't back up, I'd advise they take some of the money they are raking in nationally and invest in more flat-screen hi-def TVs.

Beer: 2

Hooters offers the usual beers on tap (Miller Lite, Yuengling Lager, etc) and pitchers are high priced at $8.99.  On Sundays, they offer both Coors Light and $3 well drink specials.  However, be aware that any top shelf alcohol is expensive and they only have club soda (I’m not quite sure how a full service bar doesn’t have tonic).

Food: 3

Even though Hooters is known for their wings, we ordered a variety of other items.  Their training burgers (their name for sliders) were one of the few bright spots along with their appetizer specialty of fried pickles.  Their curly fries were very salty…and the absolute worst item was an order of boneless chicken wings that looked like two forkfuls of barbecued cat food.  Also, Hooters will charge you for anything that you order extra like a second wing sauce.

Other/Miscellaneous: 4

Let’s all be honest here…there’s a reason guys go to Hooters.  It’s not because of the above three categories…it’s for the nubile, young female bodies poured into tight shirts and orange shorts.  They also get positive points for offering Wi-Fi to customers.  A strong negative on the day was that the temperature inside (according to their thermostat) was a blistering 82 degrees.  Only through repeated complaints by our table did we finally manage to get the staff to turn on the ceiling fans.

Overall: 13 out of 40

Hooters continues to draw crowds looking for a little T & A with their sports viewing even though their food is subpar.  They justifiably fall into the bottom half of sports bars we’ve reviewed so far this year.

Scorecards to Date (out of 40):
Al's of Hampden 32
Arooga’s 32

Skybox Sports Bar 31
Dockside Willie's 21
The Grille of Hampden 15

Hooters 13
Sam Bucca's 11

Legends 8

Thanks for coming and suckling on Daddy's Sugar Ball...
