Central PA Sports Bars: Legends

During the course of the NFL season, DSB will walk you through the best and worst places in Central PA to catch all of the games on a Sunday afternoon. Every week we will be reviewing where the DSB editors (and various guest stars) spent the better part of our day. We will be judging the locations on four criteria with a 1 (bad) to 10 (great) scale for each. Hopefully, this will help our loyal local readers find the best places to spend your Sunday afternoons.

If there are any restaurateurs or bar managers out there interested in their establishment appearing here, please contact us at EditorsDSB@gmail.com.

This week's cast of characters: ZJ, Spintrick, PJ, Plain White TS, and Max Power.

This week we ending up hitting two different establishments.  The first place we went was the Central PA mainstay, Legends, located at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg West on the Carlisle Pike.

TVs/View: 1

The televisions at Legends are an embarrasment for a bar/restaurant that bills itself as a sports bar.  While the number of TVs spread around is not the problem, the newness and quality of them are a HUGE problem.  Most of the screens are old, non high-definition, and blurry.  There is only one hi-def, plasma television; however, it is angled and positioned so only about 7% of the bar area can see it.  Legends was a great sports bar ten years ago...it's a shame that we're stuck watching the same TVs from that time too.

Beer: 3

Legends offers the usual beers on tap (Miller Lite, Yuengling Lager, etc) and even though the menu advertises import and microbrews in bottles, the options were far from ideal.  Once again they had the usual (Heineken, Amstel Light) but not a microbrew to be found in the cooler.  On Sundays, they also feature Coors Light specials.  How original!!!!

Food: 1

The food is positioned as typical sports bar food, but the quality is standard hotel fare.  For those that don't know - - that's not a good combination.  We ordered a plate of nachos, but were disheartened that guacamole was an additional $1.75 on top of the already $10 order.  When the food came out, we were even more disappointed...the nachos came with one small thimble of mango salsa and we were afraid of what we'd be charged if we asked for more.  As Spintrick said, "This food is crap."

Other/Miscellaneous: 3

Because it is located in a hotel, there is not a strong core of regulars and most of the customers are hotel patrons.  We're also pretty sure they offer wifi, but we didn't stay long enough to even find out.  Our table was wobbly and when we inquired about fixing it, we were told it wasn't the legs but it was the floor and nothing was done.  After that explanation, I felt a little like Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer - - "Your logic frightens and confuses me."

Overall: 8 out of 40

What was once a lively, thriving sports bar has become old & stale...so much so, that we left here after about an hour and a half...bad for us, but good for you since you'll get two reviews in one week.

Thanks for coming and suckling Daddy's Sugar Ball...
